First Visit

Complimentary Consultation with Dr. Boyarskiy

FirstVisit.jpeg

Our team is always looking forward to meeting new patients during their initial visit. There is no charge for the initial exam and consultation. This appointment usually takes about 30 minutes and helps to evaluate your orthodontic and dental needs. It consists of a careful and systematic examination, evaluation of the patient’s needs, and a review of treatment options and methods. Sometimes, radiographs may need to be taken at the first visit for more thorough assessment. If you have any X-ray films taken anywhere else, please bring them with you if possible.

At the first visit we should be able to answer the following:

  • Is the orthodontic treatment needed?

  • Approximately how long would it take?

  • What methods will be used?

  • Are the extractions of any teeth necessary?

  • Do you need to see any other dental or medical specialists before or during your orthodontic treatment?

We encourage you to ask us questions during this visit.

After the doctor answers all these questions, the treatment coordinator will discuss any questions regarding the cost of the treatment, insurance, and payment options. The appointment following the initial exam is usually reserved for diagnostic orthodontic records. This is a separate visit, however, in order to save you time, we can usually accommodate you at the same day as your initial appointment is scheduled. The orthodontic records include:

  • A digital panoramic film

  • A digital cephalometric film

  • Photographs

  • Impressions for study models.

These are all necessary for the orthodontist in order to evaluate each patient’s condition in depth and develop a proper treatment plan. In some instances additional records may be needed such as periapical films or 3D imaging.

During this second visit we will also discuss all financial arrangements and answer any additional questions you may have.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:

  • Any panoramic x-ray taken within the past 6 months.

  • If you have orthodontic insurance, bring your insurance card. By providing this information at the first visit we will be able to give you an estimate of your costs.

  • Medical History forms (Adult or Child) fully filled out at time of first visit.

The first treatment appointment

This appointment is when the orthodontist places or delivers your orthodontic appliance. Usually it takes about an hour. We explain the procedure before we start the treatment and then give all necessary instructions before you leave. We always make sure that you are comfortable during this visit.

Follow-up visits

Follow-up appointments are extremely important for good results. Most patients need to return in 4 to 6 weeks. These visits usually take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Missing appointments will lengthen your treatment and may affect the final result. We understand that emergencies pop up, so if you need to reschedule please let us know as soon as possible so we can accommodate you.

Dental Visits During Orthodontic Treatment

Please continue to see your regular dentist for cleanings and examinations. During orthodontic treatment with braces and other fixed appliances you should return to your dentist every 4 months. If you are being treated with the removable appliances such as Invisalign, 6 months visits are sufficient. Some patients may be prescribed by their primary dentist to undergo cleanings every 3 months. It’s the most important to keep up your preventative care during orthodontic treatment. During any situation that requires additional dental care, we will work together with your dentist so that you can receive excellent care.

The time of your appointment has been reserved exclusively for you! Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance by phone if you are unable to keep appointment.
